Haeran Hong graduated from the Korea National University of Arts and went on to earn both a Master of Music degree and an Artist Diploma in Opera Studies from the Juilliard School. During her time at Juilliard, she performed roles such as Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea and Sister Constance in Dialogues of the Carmelites. Her performance received high praise from the New York Times, which highlighted her as “the most outstanding of the impressive newcomers, singing with a radiant voice and deft phrasing.”
In 2011, Haeran Hong made history as the first Asian to win the vocal category of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium. This significant achievement expanded her presence on the global stage. Following her victory, she successfully held over ten solo recitals, marking her debut on the international music scene.
Haeran Hong has been invited to perform at prestigious events such as the Aspen Music Festival’s 20th Anniversary at Harris Concert Hall and the 60th Anniversary of the Korea-US Alliance in 2013. She has also appeared at major opera houses and festivals worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Aspen Music Festival, Luxembourg International Music Festival, and the PyeongChang Daegwallyeong Music Festival.
In January 2020, Haeran Hong released her first full-length album, Song of Hope, featuring Korean art songs. The album achieved first place on classical vocal charts and LP album charts. Her contribution to music was further recognized in 2022 when she received the 54th Nanpa Music Award.
Haeran Hong is currently a full-time professor of vocal performance at the Korea National University of Arts, where she is dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of opera singers.
