The opening program of NYCP’s thirteenth season demonstrates NYCP’s adventurous programming, pairing Classical-era and 21st-century works. Acclaimed violinist Stella Chen begins a three-year term as NYCP’s Artist-in-Residence with Mozart’s remarkable “Turkish” Concerto in A major.  Symphony No. 44 by Mozart’s mentor, Franz Joseph Haydn, demonstrates quintessential Classical wit and elegance.   As for the modern works, the first is the sparkling Sudden Path by Yoomi Paick, a past NYCP commission. The second, in its NYCP premiere, is the exciting Concerto Grosso by violinist-composer George Meyer.  Featuring soloists from NYCP’s members, this piece updates this quintessential Baroque form for the modern world.
