Beethoven’s growing scale and expressive reach come into focus in this Beethoven 200 program. Two early quartets, the lyrical Op. 18 No. 3 and the brilliantly crafted Op. 18 No. 1, lead to the expansive sweep of the Razumovsky Quartet, Op. 59 No. 1. The evening closes with Op. 127, the first of Beethoven’s late quartets and the doorway into his most visionary and inward-looking musical world.
