Korean violinist Kyung Sun Lee has established an acclaimed international career as a performer and educator. She is a prizewinner of the Tchaikovsky International Competition, Queen Elisabeth International Competition, Washington International Competition, and Montreal International Music Competition.
Lee joined the Oberlin Conservatory of Music as Assistant Professor of Violin and later became Associate Professor at the University of Houston. She served as Professor of Violin at Seoul National University before joining the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, where she holds the Dorothy Richard Starling Chair in Violin Studies.
A dedicated educator, Lee has taught at the Aspen Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Heifetz International Music Institute, and has performed at the Seattle and Marlboro Chamber Music Festivals. She is a former member of the acclaimed KumHo/Asiana String Quartet, with whom she toured internationally.
Lee is frequently invited to serve on the juries of major international violin competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition, Singapore International Violin Competition, and Tibor Junior International Violin Competition.
She studied at Seoul National University, Peabody Conservatory, and The Juilliard School, with teachers including Sylvia Rosenberg, Robert Mann, and Dorothy DeLay. She performs on a 1723 Joseph Guarnerius violin and has served as Artistic Director of the Seoul Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.
