Bassist Milad Daniari is committed to sharing the full lyrical, virtuosic, and technical capacity of the double bass with audiences in NYC and beyond. His dynamic career spans orchestral, chamber, and solo performance across the East Coast and internationally. He has appeared at major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera House, David H. Koch Theater, Alice Tully Hall, Ireland’s National Concert Hall, and Merkin Concert Hall.
Milad serves as Principal Bass with the New York Classical Players, Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra, and Pegasus: The Orchestra, and has performed as Principal Bass with Ireland’s National Symphony Orchestra, American Symphony Orchestra, Riverside Symphony, and NOVUS at Trinity Wall Street. Milad also appears regularly with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, American Ballet Theatre, New York Oratorio Society, and Musica Sacra and has performed with the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center, New York City Opera, Mark Morris Dance Center, and the Vermont, Harrisburg, Albany, and Allentown Symphonies. In 2023, he performed the New York premiere of Tan Dun’s Bass Concerto: Wolf Totem at Lincoln Center under the baton of the Grammy and Academy Award winning composer.
A dedicated chamber musician, Milad performs with Frisson and is an artist at the Seven Hills Chamber Music Festival. He has collaborated with Decoda (Carnegie Hall’s Affiliate Ensemble), The Sebastians, the Verona Quartet, and Bard Chamber Players, appearing at series such as Newport Classical, Bargemusic, and the Oxford Performing Arts Center. Milad’s festival credits include Grafenegg, Chelsea, Bard, Alba, Colorado College, Round Top, and the National Repertory Orchestra.As a member of Chesapeake Virtuosi, he was a 2021 recipient of the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation’s USArtists International Grant, performing a tour through Northern Italy featuring solo and chamber double bass music including works by Bottesini and Iranian composer Behzad Ranjbaran. He was a finalist in the Fort Worth Symphony Young Artist Competition and the Stony Brook University Concerto Competition.
Milad can be heard on the Grammy-winning Deutsche Grammophon soundtrack for Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” on Netflix and on Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest”, with additional recordings on Hyperion Records and Sorel Classics.
As an educator, Milad is the Double Bass Instructor with the Novel Voices program of Project Music Heals Us, providing lessons to international students at The Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Palestine and more. Milad also coaches the bassists of the New York Youth Symphony and is the newly appointed Double Bass Faculty Instructor at the Youth Orchestra of St. Luke’s.
Milad was previously an inaugural member and Co-Principal Bass of The Orchestra Now. Prior to completing his Master of Music at Bard College, Milad attained his Bachelor of Music at the Manhattan School of Music. His primary instructors are Timothy Cobb, Blake Hinson, and Satoshi Okamoto of the New York Philharmonic.
As an Iranian-American, Milad is particularly passionate about his heritage and amplifying the music of Iranian composers and Persian culture.
Milad performs on a Chris Threlkeld double bass (“Draylen”) made in 2018 in commemoration of Draylen Mason.
