Korean-American composer Texu Kim’s music transforms unconventional sources—ranging from everyday encounters to overlooked human stories—into sophisticated, culturally grounded works infused with clarity, wit, and nuance.
Texu’s music has been programmed by the New York Philharmonic, LA Phil, San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, Oregon Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia, National Orchestra of Korea, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Alarm Will Sound, and Sejong Soloists, among others. Winner of the 2021 Barlow Prize, his music has earned honors and awards from the Fromm Foundation, Civitella Ranieri Foundation, Isang Yun Foundation, ASCAP/SCI, Ilshin Foundation, and Copland House.
A tenured professor at San Diego State University, Texu has served as the Korean National Symphony Orchestra’s Composer-in-Residence and the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra’s Artist of the Year.
